A Welcome from the Rector
Welcome to St Peter's Church! St Peter's church Woodmansterne is an Anglican church, welcoming all who live in the parish (and beyond!). Our services are open to all.
We are a village church, playing a part in the life of Woodmansterne;
serving our neighbours with our resources and witnessing to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In all of our services we emphasise down to earth Bible teaching that connects with real life. Across a range of services we offer traditional and more contemporary worship.
St Peter's is a church aiming to grow in Christian maturity and in number as we focus on Discovering, celebrating and sharing life with God through Jesus Christ.

Who can get married at St. Peter's?
For a couple to get married at St. Peter's normally one person must either live in the parish or be on the church electoral roll.
In some cases others who have a strong link with the church, but do not live in the parish, can be married if they have a Qualifying Connection with St Peter's. This will need to be explored in an interview with the Rector, but in short one person will need to be able to say Yes to one of these Connections:
? I was baptised in the parish (by a Church of England service/form of baptism)
? I have been confirmed (by a Church of England service) and my confirmation is entered in a register belonging to a church or chapel in the parish
? My parent or grandparent was married in the parish by a Church of England service
? I have had my usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months
? My parent has had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months during my lifetime
? I have habitually attended public worship at Church of England services in the parish for at least 6 months
? My parent has habitually attended public worship at Church of England services in the parish for at least 6 months during my lifetime
Where one person has been married before and the previous partner is still alive normally a Service of Prayer and Dedication after a Civil Marriage is offered, though in exceptional circumstances a full church wedding may be possible under new Church of England guidelines.
Reading of Banns
IF EITHER ONE OF YOU LIVE IN THE PARISH, you need to have your banns read here.
This will take place at the 10.30 am Service at St. Peter's Church on the dates given to you.
We encourage you to be present to hear them.
IF ONE OR BOTH OF YOU LIVES IN ANOTHER PARISH, then you must go to the vicar of that parish and ask him to read your banns there. When they have been read, he will give you a certificate on payment of the fee. I must have the certificate before I can take your wedding service.
Rehearsal
This takes place during the week before the wedding usually the Thursday or Friday evening. We go through the wedding service at St. Peter's Church. The following people should be there: bride and groom, best man, bridesmaids and the bride's father. Please bring your orders of service and the fees.
Fees
Please pay the fees at the rehearsal. The Verger, Organist and Choir Fees are paid in cash, and it would be helpful to have their fees in cash placed in separate marked envelopes. Please make out a cheque for the other fees to St. Peter's Church.
Fees for 2009 are as follows:
Diocese and PCC ?354.50
Verger ?55.00
Organist ?70,00
Choir ?50.00
(Recording ?45.00 if service is recorded either in audio or video)
Total ?579.50
Flowers
Please contact our Flower co-ordinator, Ann Kayser 01737 554060 who is responsible for flowers in church. Please check whether there area any other weddings on the same day; you could share the cost and agree on colours.
Music
Please contact Mrs. Eve Griffith Tel: 01737 554902
You need to choose:
Order of service
It is a good idea to have an order of service printed. I can provide a sample order, along with words to common hymns and songs if that would help.
Bible reading
There are a number of suitable Bible readings to choose from, and I can supply you with a list on request.
Photographs
Please ask your guests not to take photographs during the service itself. A marriage service is an act of worship, and we try to maintain an atmosphere of worship. Photographs may be taken as you come into church, at the signing of the registers and going back down the aisle at the end of the service.
Please contact me if you have any questions about your wedding. If for any reason you decide to change the date of your wedding please let me know as soon as possible, as we will need to check availability.
I look forward to sharing with you in your wedding day, and trust that you will get in touch if I can be of any further assistance in your planning.

Two services to choose from
A new baby brings joy to any family and many families want to mark that very special event with a celebration in church.
Here at St Peters we welcome enquiries about Christenings. Normally you must either be resident in the parish or be registered on the church electoral roll.
What is a Thanksgiving?
If you want to give thanks to God for your child and to ask for Gods blessing on them and your family life, then a THANKSGIVING could be for you.
A thanksgiving is a joyful event that takes place on Sunday morning at St Peters. There are prayers of thanksgiving for the baby, some words for the parents to say, and the Rector takes the child into his arms and prays for them.
Jesus did something very similar in the Bible and thats why we do it today.
The promises
The parents promise to care for their children and to pray for them as they grow up.
Please phone John Ebenezer - our baptism co-ordinator on 01737 553545 if you would like to arrange an initial visit to discuss a thanksgiving service.
What is a Baptism?
If you want to bring your child up in the Christian faith as a member of the family of the church, then, a BAPTISM could be for you.
Baptism is a joyful event that takes place during the morning service at St Peters.
Since the very beginning of the Christian Faith, people have been baptised to show that they want to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and be part of his family, the church.
Children too young to declare their own faith are baptised on the understanding that they are brought up as members of the family of the church and that when they are old enough they will declare their own faith at a service of confirmation.
At a baptism service the parents speak for the child and make promises about how they will bring their child up and their own faith. For parents who wish to have their child baptised our baptism preparation course (see below) will help you get the most out of the baptism.
St Peter's Baptism Course
A lively look at the heart of the Christian Faith
What's involved?
Three sessions spread over three weeks. The first two sessions take place during the second half of the morning service at St Peters, in the Rectory. The third session will take place in your home, together with the godparents.
Sessions are based on a dvd Who is this Jesus - session 3 also looks at the baptism service itself. The course runs 2-3 times each year.
" I am the resurrection and the life " says the Lord, " The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die ."
Jesus spoke these words to the grieving sister of Lazarus, a few days after her brother had died. The Christian hope of eternal life lies in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Through his resurrection, he is able to offer real hope of life beyond death for those who accept his invitation to trust in him.
At St Peter's Church we are able to conduct a Christian funeral, and to offer burial in our churchyard - either by interring of ashes or full burial.
If you have recently lost a loved one, or are planning for your own funeral, then please don't hesitate to contact me on 01737 352849 .
If you are thinking ahead to your own funeral, then please click on this document for a form to help you with that.

Church...but not as we know it!
First Sunday (and every first Sunday in the month) in church hall. Starts at 6.30pm with coffee, tea and doughnuts ends at 7.45pm.

All welcome - just turn up!
The Lighthouse is our 10.30am Sunday event for children aged 3 and upwards. Everyone is together in church for the first part of our morning service, then children go out to the Lighthouse for their own activities and teaching.
For younger children there is a Creche room in church, equipped with toys and books. The sound system enables parents to hear the service whilst in the creche.
Kidzone is our after-school service for primary school-aged children and parents. Every Monday during term-time from 3.45pm?4.15pm in the Hall.
Refreshments and a tuck shop are followed by songs, Bible stories, quizzes and prayer. Great fun!
And the Inspector said It is very good! September 27th, 2011
Like a thief in the night, you can never be sure when the hygiene inspectors will arrive from the councilbut when they did come and inspect the Bus Stop Cafe last Thursday they found that everything was being done in accordance with the strict health and safety laws. The inspector gave us a 5 out of 5 Very Good rating.
Congratulations to Brenda Barron, Sally Frost, Gillian Carter, Peter Churcher and others who have kept standards high!
The vision behind the Cafe is to serve the community with a quality meeting place midweek, and to be somewhere for those who may be new to the area, or looking for community, to meet up. There is a regular and growing clientèle - some arrange to meet up before going elsewhere, some drop in after taking kids to school, others come alone and sit on a table with others. It turns out that it is also a great place for me to arrange to meet people - last week we held our outreach committee meeting there, and tomorrow I have a meeting about the church roof!
In addition to the menu we have raised money through the sale of hand-made cards, for the Mothers Union Away from it All project , which offers holidays to families who may not otherwise be able to afford one. Thanks to Christine Pierce for this.
Open every Thursday morning from 9am 11am, come and enjoy a coffee and see for yourself!
U niformed organisations are also affiliated to St Peter's Church. Scouts, Cubs and Beavers meet in the Scout Hut; Guides, Brownies and Rainbows meet in Church Hall.Weekly during term-time.
Special events for children include a Good Friday craft and activity event, and a Light Party in October. Other events are as advertised. We also have good links with local Primary Schools through assemblies and parental involvement.
St Peter's Playtime is a parent and toddler group, meeting on Wednesday mornings in the Church Hall.
